CLASSES
I am available to teach classes on the techniques of making a shekere. You have the option to buy your own materials before the session or you can purchase them from me. Get your sista circle or group of students together and learn a unique trade.
Making a shekere is a fun, calming process. Make sure to bring smiles, patience, laughter and love. Now let's get started on your journey to having an individualized shekere.
Adult Person-to-person (Less than 10 people)
Two sessions: 2 1/2 hour sessions*
$80.00/person (w/ material purchase) -1 gourd (Additional gourds can be purchased here).
You must attend both classes and fees must be paid two weeks before the first session.
*You may pick the dates that work best for you. Dates are required to be scheduled consecutive to each other.
Student Group (10 + students)
Two sessions: Based upon individual school/group basis
- $35.00 per attendee - Less than 10 students
- $100.00 additional - Every 5+ students over groups of 10
All materials will be available for attendees on site.
Required Materials
1 dried & cleaned gourd - Make sure you pick a gourd with the tone of your choice (neck size should comfortably fit in hand and be pre cut)
Beads- Wooden, Plastic or Glass (Packs of 200 in each color recommended)
Ball of string/twine- Depending on size of gourd you will need a minimum of 2 balls per shekere (Strong and durable-available at hardware stores or arts and crafts stores)
Sandpaper (medium and coarse)
Wood putty
Wood scraper
Crazy glue
Acrylic Paint (Your choice of color)
Olive oil (Recommend for bare gourds that are not painted)
Polyurethane (Clear gloss)
Acrylic Coating (UV-Resistant Clear)
